Re: simulator can not connect to internet

Are you running on a network that uses a Proxy server?

Re: simulator can not connect to internet

Hi Tim & company,

Please bear with me because I am an absolute newbie, not a developer by any stretch of the imagination. No app development going on here... so please be gentle with me.

I just want to check a measly collection of mobile-optimized webpages in 2 BB simulators

(v. 4.1.0.359 and v. 5.0.0.699).

My simple, humble objectives here are to make sure things worked as expected -- forms, links, visual [CSS-driven, XHTML coded] display. No big whoop (or so I thought)...

After installing, launching, and trying the web browser on both simulators, I get an error similar to another poster's described above:

"Unable to connect to the selected MDS"

Based on the posts preceding mine, here's my info:

- Visual Studio or Eclipse Web Plug-ins?

-------> Um...Dreamweaver CS4...?

- If you are running the simulator standalone are you also running the MDS simulator?  The MDS simulator acts as a proxy for the device simulator for connectivity

--------> It doesn't look like I got this with the 2 simulator versions installed. Please hold my hand. After searching the site, it looks like MDS Runtime and MDS Services are my options. What do I need?

- Which operating system are you running WinXP, Vista 32/64, Win7 32/64?

---------> Phew...this I can answer -- WinXP 2002

- On your LAN are you running a proxy server?

---------> No

I can't believe things have to be this complicated just to check the puny features I need to check. Please tell me if there is a simpler way to just test a few insignificant webpages without going absolutely mad. Pretty please. Smiley Sad

Re: simulator can not connect to internet

To connect the device simulator to the internet you must do the following steps

1) Download and install your desired smartphone simulator:

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/resources/simulators.jsp

2) Download and install the "BlackBerry Email and MDS services simulator" found at the bottom of this page:

http://na.blackberry.com/eng/developers/browserdev/devtoolsdownloads.jsp

3) Run the MDS Simulator

4) Run the Device Simulator

5) Browse to URL in the device simulator browser

I recommend installing these to a non UAC protected folder on Vista/Win7 such as "C:\BlackBerry"

Re: simulator can not connect to internet

Hi Folks,

I am using windows 7 Professional 64 bit.

I followed the iunstructions above and installed both the Black berry simulator and the MDS simulator in the folder C:\Blackberry.

When I start the MDS a console window just flashes and goes off.

I cannot get the internet working on my blackberry simulator unless my MDS works.

But MDS just flashes a console screen and that's it.

Is this an issue with 64-bit OS

Please can someone help me out with this.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

Re: simulator can not connect to internet

This could be an issue with the Java configuration on your machine.  Do you have a 64-bit version of the JRE/JDK installed on your machine?

My guess is that either the MDS simulator cannot find your root Java directory or it doesn't like your existing Java setup.

i am using visual studio 2008,windows XP,

BlackBerry_Email_MDS_4.1.2.17.exe

BlackBerry_Simulators_5.0.0.624_9630.exe

downloaded and installed.
