Re: which one to choose? java development or web works?

You are correct. RIM is dropping Java support past BBX, so it's a bit of a catch-22.

Keep in mind that even when BBX is released, it will take years to be the majority BB OS.

Re: which one to choose? java development or web works?

Yes you're right of course. I don't want to seem polemic,i'm happy with my bb as a user but as a developer i'm not so convinced... The situation appears to be: -Native framework is ok, a lot of good apis..maybe a little scarce on UI...however on it's way to die, Webworks yeah nice APIs but man performance sucks! And now comes BBX(in my opinion as a C lover a great thing). But we already have a few apps on BB, now platforms are splitting, should really anyone care of developing in 3 languages for one platform?

you'll have to mantain at least a java version and a BBX version...and Iphone and Android...not so good..
