Hi, hypertorus here!
I am a newbie and not very sophisticated in using my old BlackBerry Pearl 8100. I just recently upgraded from the BlackBerry Pearl to the BlackBerry Bold 9700. I am trying to transfer my settings from the Pearl to the Bold using the Desktop Manager 5.0.1. My desktop computer is a Dell Dimension 2400, with Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 3. I began the transfer process using the Device Switch Wizard, but for some strange reason, the "Task in Progress" pop-up window appears and says "Checking for device application updates. Please wait." Nothing has happened for the past two-hours and I believe that I am doing something wrong. I will search the board for a solution to this. Anyhow, many thanks in advance for any assistance that you may have for me. Cheers,

Sometimes I wonder if anybody actually reads these introductions lol. Well, welcome to the forums. As for your issue, you might want to set it up and walk away. This probably doesn't have any merit, but the RIM desktop software isn't overly stable and/or expedient. If you wait long enough, it might just kick in. If this doesn't work (I'm going to lie... it likely will not), try re-installing the desktop software and trying again. If it still fails, use other features to try and get your contacts, etc. Make a manual backup of your pearl (not a device switch), and then switch devices and try loading that same backup. Never tried something like this, so I don't know if that will work either. If that doesn't work, I'm afraid I'm out of ideas. Contact your service provider and see if they have any insight. I don't think RIM has a direct contact number.
